Clinical Case 20060914 - General overview

 


  • Patient: Male, 48 years old.
  • Clinical symptoms: light anal irritation and discharge of bloody drain 10 days ago.
  • Clinical inspection of the anus, and endorectal ultrasonography were performed.
  • An introduction of contrast agent was done, as a method to enhance fistula.


Abbreviations: EAI: Internal anal sphincter; EAE: External anal sphincter.

 

Diagnosis: transphincteric fistula. 

The tract begins one and a half centimetre outside the anal opening and crosses the external sphincter muscle, the space between the internal and external muscle (images 1-2), and finally it opens into the anal canal (video 1). The fistula track on the left lower quadrant can be seen.

Treatment: fistulectomy with and advancement rectal flap to cover the anal canal opening of the track were performed.
